This wall gets bright morning light and becomes dim later in the day. The painting reads well in both conditions. The dark walnut frame stays quiet, while the charcoal areas become more noticeable as the light changes.
This feels quite different from the prints on our other walls, and I am glad I tried something new. When I get close, I can see the actual paint and little changes across the surface. It gives me another reason to look at it. From my chair, those details don't make the room feel busy, which was something I had wondered about.
We put this in a room that receives cool daylight, so I checked the blue several times before choosing a position. Under our warmer evening lamp it feels less cool and the pale roots stand forward. I enjoy both effects. A bigger size would have crowded the corner, whereas this leaves enough wall to let the roots spread visually.
It was wrapped carefully with protection at the edges. Nothing shifted or rubbed against the painted surface.
It is less flat in person than online.
The surface has visible brush marks and small variations around the root forms. It reads as hand-painted even from a few feet away.
The composition around the root forms works surprisingly well over the dining room sideboard.
At first I thought the painting might be too dark because of the website photos. In the room it reads more clearly, especially around the root forms, and the muted color changes make it feel much less printed.
Raised paint along the roots creates a handmade, textured surface.
The 48 by 36 charcoal frame suits our blue wall.
It feels calm above our bedroom dresser, with enough dark blue and Gothic atmosphere to add depth.
“What holds us also leads us forward.”
Pale tree trunks rise from the deep blue night, their thick roots spreading out across the ground toward the distance, with tiny plants scattered among them. Cool-toned brushstrokes and distant spires work together to create a sense of spatial depth, lending the still trees a sense of life that slowly extends outward.
Inspired by the roots of ancient trees that continuously grow outward, this work uses the extension of roots to symbolize the continuous expansion of life over time—taking root does not mean staying put, but rather, once a foothold is established, gradually moving toward more distant places.
