I almost skipped this because it is hard to judge darker artwork online. After seeing it at home, I was relieved that the horse and reins stayed clear, the canvas felt substantial, and the atmospheric look was not overly theatrical.
This went on the wall beside my desk rather than directly behind the monitor. I enjoy noticing it when I stand up to leave.
The smaller scale still gives the black horse plenty of energy.
Small paint variations make it feel hand finished.
We put it in the guest room. It adds a dark focal point without making the room feel themed.
I was worried the 48"x48" option might look small once it was on the wall, but it has enough presence in my home office. The proportions match the listing, and the obsidian black wood frame feels solid and neat without distracting from the horse and reins.
Online it looked flatter, but in person there is more depth around the horse and reins and the overall palette feels more dark.
The box and corner protectors arrived intact and the canvas was well protected.
“Some directions can only be reached by breaking against restraint.”
A black horse surges through sharp, forceful strokes, while a blazing orange-red rein cuts across its dark form. The stark clash of color and splattered marks holds restraint and resistance within the same charged moment.
Inspired by the tension between instinct and control. As restraint becomes more visible, resistance begins to take shape. The work captures the instant when the will starts to break free from a direction already chosen for it.
