I expected a fairly plain surface, but there's more to notice nearby. Those little details make me glad I didn't just choose a print.

The paint is fairly subtle head-on, but side light picks up raised marks around the open negative space.
The color feels stronger here than in the little website preview.
I hadn't realized how much the bright floor would affect the surrounding wall, so I tried the painting in two positions. The more neutral spot was better. Leaving it a little lower also made the offset table feel settled rather than perched above our furniture. I'm glad I checked the arrangement at night as well as during daylight.
I was unsure this smaller size would have enough presence, but it still reads well on the wall. The burnt black wood frame is neatly finished, and soft side light gives the darker sections more separation.
The open negative space reads more clearly off-screen.
Online it looked flatter, but in person there is more depth around the open negative space and the overall palette feels more understated.
It gave behind my home office desk the darker mood I wanted.
I was most worried about shipping because the piece is fairly large. The outer package showed normal handling wear, but the inner protection kept the rolled canvas and painted surface completely safe.
The 40 by 30 black frame fits perfectly above our bench.
The green and red tones look softer in person.
“Absence has a way of taking up space.”
The dining table, covered with a white lace tablecloth, is set off to one side of the room, with two wooden chairs facing each other quietly. The vast, bare green wall creates a striking color contrast with the bright red floor, lending this ordinary interior scene a sense of restrained and subtle absence.
Inspired by a room that remains unchanged even after the waiting is over, this work uses offset furniture and large areas of negative space to convey the presence of “absence”—sometimes what truly transforms a space is not what is left behind, but who is missing.
